Owner and Founder, Novato Kitchens and Baths
Since opening Novato Kitchens & Baths in 1992 I have been blessed with knowing over 70 general contractors, architects, and designers with whom I have consistently worked over the years on hundreds of projects.
The best part of my job is working with so many phenomenal professionals and being involved in the lives of their clients on what is one of the most exciting phases of their lives - remodeling their kitchen or bath. What a great job is mine! Thanks to you all for inviting me along!
As your kitchen and bath supplier, I will work with you to create a design as you want it. I provide shop drawings or more detailed drawings, if needed to obtain building permits. I can also recommend architects and designers to help with your project. Throughout the remodeling process I am there with you, the contractor, and designers as needed to assist in making the project run smoothly.

Joined Novato Kitchens and Baths in 2008 and is better known as "JZ". Before coming to Novato Kitchens and Baths, JZ was involved in the design aspect of kitchens and baths for 15 years. John served in the Marine Corps from 1981 - 1985, where he worked as a tank mechanic. Later, he became an aeronautical engineer, doing maintenance and repairs on general aviation aircraft at several small airfields in the area, specializing in warbird restoration. John had no ambition to fly but enjoyed working with the planes on the ground.
After sustaining a back injury, John transferred his mechanical skills and knowledge of tools to the hardware business. He worked for Yardbirds for several years, and then for local hardware store (Pini's) for seven years, where he focused on kitchen and bath products and design. For two years, John was a partner in a kitchens and baths showroom in Sonoma County.
JZ's specialty is customer service. His motto is "24/7 on the job." And he means it. On a recent fishing trip, he received several phone calls from clients. John's particular expertise lies in his extensive product knowledge. His dedication to seeing the job through is just part of the package when working with Novato Kitchens and Baths.
JZ lives with his wife, Gordana, and their son, Morgan, in Petaluma, CA. As you can see from the picture JZ has a passion for fishing and likes to spend time casting for salmon and steelhead in Southwestern Oregon.

Mary Baron Smith
Mary earned a B.A. in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1982, and has been working in the field of Architectural Design ever since. After working for a number of design firms in the Bay Area, Mary joined Novato Kitchens and Baths in 2000 as an Associate. With her husband, Byron, Mary is a Partner in Baron Smith Design & Construction. Most of their jobs have been remodels of kitchens and baths, making her participation in the Novato Kitchens and Baths cooperative a natural fit.
Mary especially enjoys her work on residential projects, where personal interaction and client communication are essential. Mary listens to clients' wishes, understanding that each job is unique and must relfect the taste and needs of her client. Most of the jobs Mary does are complete service, from design through construction. She provides both initial design drawings and the complete permit set. She helps clients select materials and orders the supplies for the job. Mary follows through as the project progresses. This benefits the client in providing a seamless process, while avoiding costly mistakes.
Mary's favorite part of the job is the phase when the transformation of the space begins to emerge. The vision she has interpreted for the client starts to take shape, reaffirming that she has guided the client to the right set of solutions.
Mary also takes pride in the quality of service and products that customers get from Novato Kitchens and Baths. This is a full-service, established company with integrity to stand behind its work.
Mary lives in Vallejo, CA with her husband, Byron, and their teenaged son Malcolm. Mary enjoys cooking and spending time with her extended family. She particularly enjoys her own remodeled kitchen.
